Half My Heart Beats at The 78 on Boxing Day

Half My Heart Beats will continue at The 78 this coming Saturday, Boxing Day. We'll be playing indiepop and anti-folk from 9pm until the later-than-usual time of 1am.

As we've said before, The 78 is a beautiful pub for a drink and a natter, so if you're desperate to escape Christmas telly and leftover turkey (or should that be tofurkey?), please come along on Saturday. Free entry all night!

Half My Heart Beats this Saturday - with guest DJ Krister Bladh!

The next Half My Heart Beats is this Saturday night at The Flying Duck. This month we've got our first ever guest DJ! Swedish indiepop stalwart Krister Bladh will be playing a few tunes during the evening - definitely something to look forward to.

Krister runs the Don't Die On My Doorstep indiepop club night in Malmö, Sweden, blogs under the title of Heaven Is Above Your Head and plays guitar in indiepop/girl group revivalists A Smile and a Ribbon.

His set at Half My Heart Beats will be one of four (four!) guest DJ appearances he'll be making over the course of this weekend, so he's obviously a man in demand!

Apart from that, Lynsey and I will be playing the usual mix of indiepop, girl groups and more from 11pm sharp - hopefully see you there!

Tomorrow (Saturday 28th) sees the second edition of our new night at The 78 on Kelvinhaugh Street. Lynsey and I will be playing indiepop and anti-folk from 9pm til midnight (and it's free to get in), so please come along!

The School and Allo, Darlin' come to Half My Heart Beats

After our last bout of gigs just about killed us, we’ve taken a break for a while but we’ll be back in March with a popshow that will be unmissable for fans of dreamy girl-pop fronted by singers called Elizabeth.

The School

The School are an eight-piece pop group from Wales that makes gorgeous, shimmering pop of the kind Phil Spector had a hand in before he went a bit mental. Following on from their ace single All I Wanna Do and Let It Slip EP, they’re set to release their much-anticipated debut album early in 2010. We are hugely excited to have them back in Glasgow and playing at Half My Heart Beats.

Allo, Darlin’

In much the same vein, Allo, Darlin’ have been slowly building something of a cult following with a string of brilliant releases on the WeePOP! and Fortuna POP! labels. They like record labels that end in POP!, you see. Live performances all over the place in 2009, not least at London Popfest, have helped spread the gospel of the Darlin’ even further. Their forthcoming single, The Polaroid Song, is surely going to feature on plenty of best-of-2009 lists. It deserves to, anyway, because it’s fucking ace.

Apart from some overheating speakers that cut out a couple of times, we thought it went really well. We only found out we'd be in the kitchen bar at the last minute, but we might try to swing it so future nights are held in there. Watch this space.

A wee update

It's all been a bit frantic around here recently, so I thought this would be a good time to sum up where we are with Half My Heart Beats right now.

The next club night at The Flying Duck is next weekend, Saturday 14th November. As usual, we kick off at 11pm and will be playing indiepop, girl groups and more through til 3am.

Our first little experiment with a low-key night at The 78 in Kelvinhaugh Street was a success, and it looks like becoming a regular night that will happen on the last Saturday of each month. So if you fancy a listening to some sterling indiepop and anti-folk in a beautiful west end pub, come down to the next one on Saturday 28th November! It runs from 9pm til midnight and entry is free.

The Half My Heart Beats group on Facebook is probably the best place to keep up to date with what's going on, or you can check the panel on the right of this blog for what we've got coming up.

Finally, we're in the process of putting together some very exciting popshows for the new year after a long hiatus. More soon!

Mini Half My Hearts Beats at The 78!

Apologies for the (very) short notice, but Lynsey and I are starting a new monthly night at The 78 on Kelvinhaugh Street, Glasgow. For those of you who don’t know the venue, it’s a really nice pub in the west end that serves vegan food and beer and has DJs (and occasional live music, I think) at night.

It’s all come about quite suddenly so we don’t have a proper name for it yet, or flyers, but it would be ace if some of you could make it along to the first one, which will be on Saturday 31st October (tomorrow!).

In spirit, the new night will be kind of like an offshoot of Half My Heart Beats where we get to play some of the lesser-known indiepop we can’t always pull off at our usual night. I’ll probably play some more shoegazey and dream-poppy stuff and Lynsey will play some more of the folk-type stuff she likes.

We’re on from 9pm to midnight, so it’ll be ideal if you just fancy a quiet drink or as somewhere to go before heading elsewhere. Unfortunately we clash with Little League this month (we always seem to manage clashing with Little League), but we should have the last Saturday of the month slot for future months too if you can’t make it this time.
