HMHB presents Eux Autres and The Hardy Boys at The Flying Duck, Sat 5th March

Eux Autres

We’re extremely chuffed to be hosting Eux Autres for their first ever gig in Scotland. They’re an indiepop band from San Francisco consisting of Nicholas and Heather Larimer, Yoshi Nakamoto (ex-Aislers Set and current Still Flyin’drummer) and Nathan Berlinguette.

Eux Autres have just released their third album, Broken Bow, and it’s a stunner. Their sound has been likened to ‘the unrequited love song Doug Martsch would have penned for Francoise Hardy, had the time/space continuum conveniently collapsed’. With their literate Francophile pop played with guts and energy they’re a proper indiepop band, the kind Half My Heart Beats is all about!

The gig is on Saturday 5th March at The Flying Duck, 142 Renfield Street, Glasgow.

Joining them will be The Hardy Boys, who formed in Greenock way back in 1985 and built a cult following on the back of their early releases. They’re back playing live after a long hiatus and have promised us a couple of new songs as well as the classics.

Tickets are available from wegottickets or on the door.

Praise for Eux Autre’s latest album, Broken Bow:

“It has a timeless, rough and tumble pure pop feel that perfectly matches its sometimes joyful, sometimes troubled, always kind of complicated lyrics” – Three Imaginary Girls

“Guitars are spare and heavily reverbed, drumming is primal, and boy-girl vocals are sweet without being overly precious. Basically, Eux Autres has been doing for years what many a lesser band is trying to do today” – The Days of Lore

“The best songs flog individual vocal talents. Nicolas’s goes down like a warm cup of naiveté on “A Band Undone”, a forlorn track that’s kissed by plenty of iridescence with its jangling guitars and piano curlicues, placing it firmly on a Zombies/Byrds footing. Meanwhile, Heather’s coy delivery on “Queen Turner” is as irresistibly treacle as the Pastels’ Katrina Mitchell’s vocal licks” – PopMatters

“Songs on Broken Bow are just as poignant and stunning as before… Always fun, there’s generally a hint of emotion, be it pensive dwelling on being treated poorly, or a raucous jaunt on a favored sports team. Fun, always; but the lyrics speak something a little different from what you might be used to. That, above almost anything else, is what makes Eux Autres one of the better pop bands around” - FensePost

Changes to our regular night at The Flying Duck

2011 flyer (sans text)

We’re just writing to let you know about a few changes to Half My Heart Beats for 2011. Our monthly night at The Flying Duck is moving from its old second-Saturday slot to a new, regular third Saturday of the month slot (11pm – 3am).

Our first night in the new slot will be on Saturday 19th February and we’ll be sending out event invites to the Half My Heart Beats group on Facebook soon (although everyone is welcome, as always).

We're also moving from the main room to the kitchen bar, which is something we’re really excited about. The kitchen bar has a dancefloor and plenty of seating in a smaller space, which will hopefully make for a more together-feeling club night.

One final change is to the entry fee – it will now be £3 before midnight and £5 after, or free if you come down before 11pm, so do!

Hope to see some of you at the Duck on 19th February!

PS. Our monthly slot at The 78 will remain unchanged on the last Saturday of every month.

PPS. Don’t forget the two awesome gigs we’ve got coming up: Sourpatch, Town Bike and Maximum Bob on Wednesday 23rd Feb and Eux Autres and The Hardy Boys + 1 (TBC) on Saturday 5th March. Both gigs are at The Flying Duck.
