Why I love Glasgow...
Mat Riviere
What a month to be in Glasgow! There's loads of exciting stuff happening in February, so I thought a quick round-up was in order. I'm just back from seeing the lovely Jam On Bread and Mat Riviere at Tchai Ovna - you might remember we put on Mat as part of our first gig just before Christmas, and he plays in the backing band for The Middle Ones. Mr. Jam On Bread even did a song about The Middle Ones and how they were his favourite band of all time. It was great.
On Saturday 14th, another band that played our first gig (The Just Joans) are having an EP launch at Hydland Bowling Club. They're bringing out a new 3" CD on the WeePOP! label and having a little launch party, along with Butcher Boy and The Bobby McGees. So I don't need to tell you how ace that's going to be. I think it's invite-only but I have no idea how one goes about getting an invite, so best to head over to the band's myspace page and see if you can find anything out from there.
Perhaps most importantly of all (ahem), our next Half My Heart Beats club night is on Saturday 14th, straight after The Just Joans's party. As usual, we're at The Flying Duck on Renfield Street and will be playing indiepop and girl groups from 11pm 'til late.
The following Saturday (21st Feb), you've got the choice of Butcher Boy at Queens Park Bowling Club (with me, John (NPL) and Keith (Spifire) DJing after) or Crystal Stilts at The Captain's Rest. If you can't choose, Crystal Stilts are playing in Edinburgh the following night.
On Friday 27th, HMHB regular Brogues is putting on what is sure to be a brilliant popshow at Stereo - Liechtenstein, Peter Parker and The Sexual Objects. If that doesn't float your boat, Fanfarlo will be making an appearance at The Captain's Rest the same night.
I've probably missed a few things, but that's enough to be going along with. Check back for more posts in the runup to the club on Saturday, and if you've got any requests we'd love to hear them!
